I’m so excited to capture moments with you and your little ones. I don’t want you to get overwhelmed. Here are Some ways you can prepare a couple days before your session:

What to wear:

Simplicity is key. Pick solid colors and simple patterns (unless you have something that is sentimental you’d like to feature). Above all else, where something you feel confident, comfortable, and beautiful in—this could be a cotton robe or lounge pants. Think about what would help put you at ease. Here are things to keep in mind:

  • complimentary tones on all family being photographed. I recommend starting with what Mama will wear and pick coordinating complimentary outfits from there

  • something you can comfortably breastfeed in (wrap dresses and open front sweaters/beach coverups photograph beautifully)

  • prioritize 2 baby outfits

  • sentimental items you’d like documented

  • fresh flowers or foliage if you’d like

  • lay out/iron the night before, so you don’t have to worry about it the morning of

Areas to Prep

  • No need to clean your whole house. Pick 2-3 areas that get decent window light. Popular picks are Parents’ bedroom, patio or yard, nursery, couch or family area.

  • consider removing framed or rectangular decor from behind bed or area we’ll be shooting to simplify background

Prepping your Body & mind:

  • Clean hands, feet, & nails on all being photographed (recommended night before)

  • Shower when you feel best (night before or morning before)

  • Offer baby feed around 45 min before your photo session is scheduled to start, so he or she is full and satisfied by the time we start shooting

  • natural make-up and hair (if it helps to comfort you)

  • do as much as possible prior to the day of your shoot, so you can relax and your baby can feed off of your calm energy

  • get a good night’s sleep (well as best you can with a newborn)

Possible set-ups to consider

I typically shoot older sibling family photos first, so toddlers and older children can be off the hook, but the flow of things is very fluid.

  • siblings/family

  • naked baby / baby in just diaper

  • baby by him or herself outfits/possible props

  • mommy & daddy with baby

  • mommy & me/nursing

  • breastfeeding portraits

  • fourth trimester/postpartum appreciation
